SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is the entrance conducted in USA for the college admissions. These tests are designed to assess the knowledge and skills to pass out high school students.


SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is the entrance conducted in USA for the college admissions. These tests are designed to assess the knowledge and skills to pass out high school students. To know what is the level of their understanding. The students are assessed after combining the score of both SAT and high school GPA. The international students are eligible for appearing in the SAT exam. The greatest advantage of this exam is that it is an unbiased exam as it is designed according to standards. Moreover, before appearing in the exam it is important to know about the SAT syllabus to prepare for it.

SAT exam pattern: This exam is OMR- based exam in which you have to blacken the bubbles. The total time duration of the exam is 3.50 hours. It is bifurcated into four sections i.e.

  • Reading section: It consists of 52 questions and the time allotted for this section is 65 minutes. This section is designed in such a way that there are 4-5 passages which comprise of approx. 10 multiple-choice questions each. These passages are based on the US contemporary or classic work, foundings, or constitution of US-related documents or economics, psychology, sociology, etc. The questions are to be answered after reading these passages thoroughly. The questions are mostly based on the theme, style, tone, data interpretation, phrases, etc. 
  • Writing and Language section: This section is to evaluate your writing skills and consists of 4 passages containing 44 questions overall. This section covers the passages from the articles based on careers, sciences, history, or humanities. The answers are to be followed in 35 minutes. The scores for this section are based on the judgment of argument strength; usage of tone, words, style; the structure of the sentence, grammar, punctuation, etc. 
  • Math section: This section is divided into two parts i.e. Math test (calculator covering 38 questions) and Math Test (No-calculator covering 20 questions). The time allotted to both the subsections are 55 minutes and 25 minutes respectively. This section covers the areas i.e. Algebra, Problem-solving and data analysis, Advanced math. This section offers you a cheat-sheet covering the list of required formulas with the help of which you can solve questions.
  • SAT essay section: This section is not mandatory and the student can opt for it if only it is required by the particular institute or university. This is to evaluate your reading, writing skills, and analytical skills. This section has been allotted 50 minutes in which analysis has to be written after reading the given passage (approx. 700 words). The course of passage keeps on varies. As it is optional its scores are not added in SAT score. Apart from this, its score is evaluated between 2 to 8. 

This exam is held out seven times a year in the US for domestic students and international students, it is held four times a year. The candidates can appear for the test by registering at least three weeks before the test. The range for this test score is between 400-1600. Moreover, you need to set the SAT score target as required by the particular university in which you desire to get admission.
