Southeast Asia Container Terminals with Massive Operations

Some of the biggest container terminals reside on the ports of Southeast Asia. Port Technology International (PTI) has compiled a list on the record of TEU traffic 2018, according to it, the following are the biggest South Asia container terminals.

Port Of Singapore

Singapore port is Southeast Asia's largest port having the most traffic of reefer containers. It is the only South Asia container terminal that ranks in the world's top ten biggest ports.

After the port of Singapore, the port of Shanghai is on the second number in counting.

According to the container terminals operation data, 37.2 million TEUs were carried in 2019 by the port, which makes up of 1.6% compared to 2018. The Maritime Port Authority (MPA) is currently constructing the Tuas Terminal, which, once finished in 2040, will be the world's largest terminal with the capacity of 60 million TEUs.

In the poor global economic conditions in 2016, the Port of Singapore maintained its performance.

In comparison, in 2016, Singapore remained the world's largest bunkering port, which increased 7.7% to 48.6 million tonnes, contrasting the overall amount of bunkers sales at the port of Singapore, up from 45.2 million tonnes.

Port Klang, Malaysia 

In the southeastern region, Port Klang is the second-largest port with 12.3 million TEUs on traffic, well below the top 10 in the world.

Located in the Malacca Strait, on the Western coast of the Malay Peninsula, it is one of the busiest waterways for container terminals globally.

In May 2018, Westport, one of Port Klang's three largest terminal operators, announced that it has begun acquiring land in its expansion plans to build four terminals.

Port Of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia

This port is on the third number in the list of biggest South Asia container terminals.

With an annual traffic of approximately TEU 12 million, Tanjung Pelepas Port is one of the 20 biggest ports in the world.

It is the most technologically advanced port in Asia and popular for breaking the vessel consumption record thrice in a row. The most latest was in July 2019.

It revealed in October 2019 plans to boost the strength to hold over 30,000,000 TEUs by 2030. By 2030.

Port Of Laem Chabang, Thailand

On the list of the biggest south Asia container terminal, the port of Laem Chabang is the fourth one.

Catching traffic of 8 million TEU annually, this port is the residency of the most advanced container terminal of Thailand, opened in January 2019 by Hutchison Ports.

As an expectation, the terminal D capacity will increase by 3.5 million TEU after its completion. Also, according to the record, it received the largest vessel One Columba in November 2018.

Port Of Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, Indonesia

Last but not least, Tanjung Priok is the fifth biggest port on the list south Asia container terminal.

It is the most advanced port and restores approx. 7.6 million TEU annual traffic. Also, it handles 50% transshipment traffic in the country.

Currently, it has been extended to offer better services to the world's biggest vessels.

The project was originally initiated in 2013 and expecting the completion in 2022. The expansion will make the port one of the eight busiest ports on a global scale with seven new terminals that will be capable of handling 18 million TEUs.
