The bathroom is the space to refresh and rejuvenate. Therefore, it is essential that it is well-maintained and absolutely hygienic at all times. This is the reason a lot of interior designers are encouraging homeowners to go for tiles instead of the marble floor. Tiles are easier to clean and maintain. Tiles are 100% non-porous which means that they do not absorb water. The joints between tiles are sealed with grout so that water does not seep under the surface. It ensures that there are zero chances of mold and bacteria build-up.

Apart from this, you can choose to decorate your bathroom the way you want with thousands of designs of modern tiles. From the common area to the shower area, you can decorate your whole bathroom with tiles. Now, once installed, all tiles require is regular maintenance which doesn’t cost you either much effort or bucks. Having said that, there are a few points related to maintenance that you must be aware of if you want shiny, pristine bathroom tiles.

How to Clean Bathroom Tiles

Like mentioned earlier, cleaning tile floors is fairly easy. Here’s how you can keep ceramic tiles shiny:

  1. Clean dust and dirt off the floor with a broom or a vacuum cleaner regularly. It reduces the risk of abrasion due to dust particles.
  2. Clean the tile floor with any domestic non-oil cleaning solution. Makes sure the cleaning solution has no side-effect on cement grout.
  3. Thoroughly wipe the tile surface with a soft cloth or a wet mop.
  4. If there is soap residue build-up on the tiles, clean it off with a recommended cleaning solution and a mop. In case the stains are stubborn, you can use a non-metallic brush. Finally, make sure that you rinse away the cleaning solution with clean water.
  5. If you observe mildew build up in the corners, use a cleaner that is known to control mildew.
  6. To avoid any scratching on the tiles, cover the bottoms of the vanity cabinet with protective pads.
  7. Do not use acid-based cleaners as they can permanently damage the glaze of the surface.

How to Clean Shower Area

The shower area is the most important part of the bathroom when it comes to ensuring a germ-free and hygienic. It is important that you clean your shower even before it gets, as even a speck of dirt in this particular area can give way to bacteria build-up.

  1. Clean the shower tiles with a cleaning solution that works effectively on soap residue, hard water deposits, mildew, and bacteria build-up. Whatever cleaning solution you use, make sure it is recommended by the tile manufacturer.
  2. Spray the cleaner on the surface of the tile properly and let it remain on the surface for a few minutes. Wash it off using some water and a sponge. Repeat this process regularly.
  3. Again, refrain from using an acid-based cleaner to avoid damage to the glaze of the shower tiles.

How to Clean Grout

Cleaning grout is as important as cleaning tiles. The cleaning process of grout requires more patience and effort as compared to tiles. If done properly, clean grout makes your tiles look even shinier.

  1. Clean the grouting lines with a mild cleanser and a soft brush.
  2. It is recommended that you use a grout sealer to ensure that the grout becomes stain-resistant.
  3. Keep checking for grout cracks frequently and re-grout immediately if you find a crack.
  4. While replacing cracked grout, fill it all the way to the subfloor or concrete. This way the new grout gets adequate depth and has a stronger grip.
  5. Do not use cleaning solutions with acid or ammonia on grout. Acid can compromise the strength of grout and ammonia can discolor the grout.

So, now you know almost everything there is to ensure a clean, germ-free, and shining bathroom floor. Another major factor related to the maintenance of tiles is the quality of the tiles. The tiles must be of good quality and should not have impurities in their raw material. It ensures that tiles do not react with most home-based cleaning solutions. It makes the cleaning process easier and convenient.
