How to Choose the Best Eyelash Extensions for Your Eye Shape

How to choose the best eyelash extensions for your eye shape

Nowadays, it is expected of us to look our best every day, but the amount of time we have at our disposal to do intricate makeup routines every morning is less and less in the daily hustle and bustle. However, the beauty industry has not been slacking all this time either, and there are many practical solutions that will make us look incredible with minimal effort. For instance, you can forget about annoying eyelash curlers and clumpy mascara by getting semi-permanent eyelash extensions. You’ll wake up with perfect eyelashes every morning and will be ready to take on the day. But what exactly are eyelash extensions and how to choose the best one for you? Here is what you need to know.

How do eyelash extensions work?

Eyelash extensions are different from your regular glue-on false eyelashes. When you’re getting eyelash extensions, individual lashes are glued onto your real eyelashes, creating a natural-looking effect. The material of these eyelashes can vary, as well as their curl and thickness. The application is done by professionals, who are also going to give you advice on what type would suit you and whether your desired option is the best one for your eye shape during your initial consultations. After the extensions are applied, you should avoid getting water on them for 12 hours so that the glue can set, and afterwards, you will be able to enjoy a set of beautiful lashes for weeks.

What will fit my eye shape?

When getting your eyelash infills, it’s essential that you keep your eye shape in mind as you want your new lashes to complement it beautifully. Whether you will go for a full set or a partial set will also depend on the size and shape of your eyes as much as on how dramatic you want your final look to be.

If you’ve got big, round eyes that are wide open and draw attention, you probably go for a cat-eye look in your usual makeup to elongate their shape. You will take the same approach with your eyelash infills: you should avoid getting too dramatic a curl especially at the middle of the eye to tone down the “alertness” in your look. A B curl would be a great fit. At the same time, you should ask for long eyelashes towards the outer corner of your eyes to elongate them and give them an almond shape.

If you’ve got the much-desired almond shape, you have the biggest freedom in your decision, since your eye shape already has a good balance. Still, you will probably do the opposite of what round-eyed ladies would. To open your eyes a bit more, go for long, curled lashes in the middle – a C curl would be a fair choice.

Those with hooded eyes and/or straight lashes will see the biggest difference if they get lash extensions. Of course, you want a good curl to bring out those lashes, so for this eye shape, an L-curl or an L-lift are recommended. This curl lifts up in the shape of the letter L, immediately opening and brightening up the eyes.

Those with small and/or deep-set eyes want to emphasize them more, however, they should be wary of overdoing it. For this eye shape, dramatic full sets are not recommended, as they can look particularly heavy and overdone. The same goes for too dramatic a curl as well. Instead, if you have this eye shape, ask for long but not too curled lashes – for instance, a light J-curl would be great, but be sure to ask your beautician’s advice.

Finally, if you have downturned eyes, you can easily balance them out with a cat-eye look mentioned in the beginning. A full set of lashes with longer ones towards the outer corner of the eyes will bring the corners up and create the effect of bigger, more open eyes.

As you can see, you have lots of options when you’re choosing what eyelash extensions you want to complement your daily looks with, but your eye shape will be the most determining factor in your decision. Now that you know what you need to, go book your appointment!
