Get Rid of Yellow Eyes Using  Natural Remedies

Yellow eyes are sometimes medically called conjunctival icterus. The white part of the eye called sclera gets yellowish color. The sclera is often seen as your health indicator. Any change in its color is a symptom of some health condition that needs attention. Most of the time, this condition is an indication of jaundice. Apart from that, it also indicates the presence of excess bilirubin in your blood. The cause of this excess concentration on your blood is due to the inadequate functioning of your bile ducts, liver, and gallbladder.

Bilirubin is a waste formed of abnormal red blood cells, which is filtered by the liver and is transferred via bile duct to the gallbladder for excretion. When the liver, bile ducts, and gallbladder malfunction, this compound accumulates in your blood, producing yellowish appearance on your eyes and skin. Sometimes stones in the gall bladder block the bilirubin, leading it to your blood.

Another condition that is associated with yellow eyes is pinguecula. Yellow spots form in the sclera of the eye due to prolonged exposure to UV rays.

Yellow eyes in infants

Infants who are less than 38 weeks old are prone to this condition. Sometimes the liver of babies hasn’t fully developed to remove the excess of bilirubin from their body. The symptoms arise on the 4th day after birth. Sometimes by pressing their skin, you can see the yellowish appearance.

If you are already facing this condition, follow some natural remedies discussed below:

Sugarcane

In a glass of sugarcane juice, mix one teaspoon of lemon juice and drink it twice a day. This juice enables frequent urination, clearing off the excess bilirubin accumulated in the blood. It also allows the proper functioning of the liver and bile secretion.

Neem

Neem has anti-viral properties that help in fighting different types of hepatitis, which is caused by a virus. Extract juice by crushing fresh neem leaves. Add one teaspoon of this juice with a glass of water and one teaspoon of honey. Consume this drink every day in an empty stomach.

Barley

Barley has antioxidant and diuretic properties which help in removing excess bilirubin from your blood. It strengthens the functioning of your liver and digestive system. Add one teaspoon of roasted barley seeds powder and honey to a glass of water and drink it. Drink it at regular intervals.

Tomato

The lycopene compound present in tomatoes is an excellent antioxidant. It helps in clearing out the toxins from the liver and purifies your blood. Extract the juice from fresh tomatoes and add salt as well as pepper to it. Drink it in the morning once. It also helps in increasing your appetite.

Yogurt

One bowl of plain yogurt must be consumed every day. This probiotic supplement strengthens your immune system and increases the population of good bacterias in your body. This helps in eliminating excess bilirubin levels every day.

Garlic

Crush the garlic and consume 3-4 cloves of it every day. You can either mix it with the food and consume it or can eat it directly. The allicin compound present in the garlic is a strong antioxidant which helps in proper detoxifying of the liver and blood.

Lemon

Mix lemon juice extracted from half lemon in a glass of water and add one teaspoon of honey to it. Drink this mix three times a day. Lemons are antioxidants that help in clearing off the blocked bile ducts for a smooth transition of bile juices.

Amla

Amlas are antioxidants with multiple essential nutrients involved in it. It imparts proper detoxification resulting in good liver health. Boil 2-3 amlas in a bowl and add it’s pulp to it. Let it cool down and mix it with some honey. Drink this juice three times a day every day.

For infants follow these remedies:

Sunlight

Exposing your baby into the sunlight is considered as an effective remedy for treating jaundice. However, direct sunlight is no longer recommended for treatment. As per the study conducted by Stanford University School of Medicine, the babies who were kept under outdoor canopies while holding their babies didn’t get harmed by the radiation. The canopies filtered the harmful radiation from sunlight, allowing only nonharmful radiations to penetrate, which treated jaundice effectively. So consider exposure to filtered sunlight treatment. The baby must be exposed for 10 minutes twice a day under filtered sunlight.

The blue light spectrum of sunlight isomerizes the bilirubin molecules in an infant’s body.

Vitamin D

Jaundice makes the infant’s body deficient in vitamin D. So by increasing its levels also helps in curing it. Breastfeeding helps in increased levels of vitamin D as it passes from the mother’s body to the infant. Also, sun exposure helps in boosting it.

Probiotics

Probiotics help in eliminating excess bilirubin from the body, which helps in speedy healing. However, there is not enough research that supports this idea, make sure you consult your doctor first before administering probiotics to your child.

Magnesium

Study shows pregnant women who consumed magnesium-rich foods daily with the intake of 250mg for six weeks have their babies with 20.6% of reduction of excess bilirubin levels. While being pregnant, make sure you consume magnesium-rich foods such as spinach, chard, kale, watermelon seeds, almonds, cashews, black beans, whole grains(brown rice, millet, buckwheat), fishes(salmon, mackerel, halibut), dark chocolate, etc.

Preventive measures

You must also follow some precautionary measures which will help you from any future occurrences or in some cases prevent it from occurring in the first place:

  • Avoid being obese, maintain a healthy weight

  • Avoid alcohol consumption

  • Make sure you have low cholesterol

  • Maintain personal hygiene

  • Drink clean water or boil it before drinking

Along with that, avoid Sugar, Meat, Dairy products, and Salt if you have jaundice. As they put a load on your digestive system and will make it difficult to digest.

Make sure you make a quick visit to your doctor when you detect the yellowishness in your eyes. Star taking home remedies and follow your doctor’s instructions. These conditions worsen with time and may cause permanent damage to your liver.

In the case of infants, if arms or legs look yellow, is sick, not eating properly, etc. Make a quick visit to the doctor.
