What all you should know about the Alberta Express Entry Stream?

Alberta Express Entry Stream is new compared to other provincial nominee programs. To apply under this stream your profile should be in express entry pool.


The Express Entry Stream of Alberta is relatively new compared to other provincial nominee streams. It's a passive program indicating that you apply to this program only when invited. Unless you get notification from the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, you can't apply to this program.

If selected, you receive an invitation through your Express Entry portal. Invited applicants are given a specific number of days to apply for a provincial nomination to AINP. In case if you don't meet the deadline, your invitation gets canceled, according to CIC News.

You may receive an invitation (Notification of Interest) if:

  • Your profile is active with the Federal Express Entry Pool.
  • You have expressed interest in permanently settling down in Alberta.
  • You have work expertise in an occupation that is of economic importance in Alberta.
  • Your Comprehensive Ranking System score is minimum 300.

Your chances of getting invited increase if:

  • You have work expertise in Alberta or an offer of employment from Alberta.
  • You have completed your studies from an academic institute in Canada.
  • You have a blood relative-parent, child or sibling living in Alberta.

You may not receive an invitation if:

  • The expiry of your Express Entry profile is in 3 months or less
  • You work in any ineligible occupation.

The following occupations are not eligible for the Alberta Express Entry Stream:

  • Legislators
  • School principals and administrators of primary and secondary education
  • Managers in social, community and correctional services
  • Fire chiefs and senior firefighting officers
  • Escort agency managers and Massage parlor managers
  • Secondary school teachers
  • Elementary school and kindergarten teachers
  • Professional occupations in religion
  • Authors and writers
  • Musicians and singers
  • Actors and comedians
  • Painters, sculptors & other visual artists
  • Court officers & justices of the peace
  • Dental laboratory assistants & bench workers
  • Early childhood instructors who do not have certification through Alberta Children’s Services –
  • Child Care Staff Certification Office or who have been certified as a child development assistant
  • (formerly Level 1)
  • Other instructors
  • Other religious occupations
  • Other performers, not elsewhere classified
  • Artisans and craftspersons
  • Athletes
  • Real estate agents and salespersons
  • Home childcare providers
  • Home support workers, housekeepers and related occupations
  • Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
  • Casin occupations
  • Other personal service occupations
  • Taxi and limousine drivers and chauffeurs
  • Trappers and hunters
  • Other sales-related occupations
  • Operators and attendants in recreation, sport, and amusement
  • Other service support occupations, not elsewhere classified
  • Harvesting laborers
  • Landscaping & grounds maintenance laborers
  • Aquaculture & marine harvest laborers
  • Mine laborers
  • Insurance, real estate, and financial brokerage managers
  • Advertising, marketing, and public relations managers
  • Engineering managers
  • Architecture and science managers
  • Computer and information systems managers
  • Corporate sales managers
  • Supervisors, finance and insurance office workers
  • Purchasing agents and officers
  • Supervisors, finance and insurance office workers
  • Purchasing agents and officers
  • Geoscientists and oceanographers
  • Civil engineers
  • Electrical and electronics engineers
  • Construction estimators
  • Industrial designers
  • Contractors and supervisors, metal forming, machining, shaping and erecting trades and related occupations
  • Contractors and supervisors, pipefitting trades
  • Ironworkers
  • Electricians (except industrial and power system)
  • Industrial electricians
  • Carpenters
  • Plumbers
  • Motor vehicle body repairers
  • Insulators
  • Crane operators (except all-terrain crane operators)
  • Supervisors (Petroleum, Gas, Chemical processing & utilities).

Candidates in the following occupations may also not receive an invitation:

– NOC 7293- Insulators and NOC 7271-Scaffolders for the duration of work which is more than 6 months

– Occupations which receive a high volume of applications through other AINP streams like:

  • 6311- Food Service Supervisors
  • 6211- Retail sales supervisors
  • 6322- Cooks
  • 0621- Retail and wholesale trade managers
  • 1241- Administrative assistants
  • 1221- Administrative officers
  • 1311- Accounting technicians & bookkeepers
  • 0631- Restaurant & Food Service managers
  • 4214- Early childhood educators & assistants
  • 4212- Social & Community service workers
