Ghee is the refined form of butter, which is used in almost every dish that is prepared in India. It provides healthy fats and some essential acids to boost up the overall strength of a human body.
How it is made?
The traditional method of making Desi Ghee is to gently heat cow’s buttermilk until the water evaporates while separating milk solids and leaving the fat (Ghee) behind. However, clarified butter is slightly different from the traditional Ghee. Ghee takes more time to be refined in comparison to the butter.
Ghee is an essential part of Ayurveda

A recent experiment was made by a team of doctors to check the impact of Ghee on rats. The team has given 10% of saturated fats in the form of Pure Ghee to a group of rats. All of them had no impact on their cholesterol levels except one, who was already suffering from genetic disorders and bad cholesterol levels.
So, for a normal person, it is okay to consume pure Ghee to maintain the good fat levels in the blood, but not recommended for an already sick and genetically weak person. The standard 10% Ghee of the total diet is recommended to be consumed every day.

Fats in Ghee
Ghee contains 100% fat with no availability of proteins or carbs. One tablespoon of Ghee offers 15 grams of fat, out of which 9 grams is saturated fat and remaining is unsaturated fat. Monounsaturated fat is only 5 grams and polyunsaturated fat is less than one gram, but both the fats are considered healthier in comparison to the saturated fat.
Availability of micronutrients depends on the food supplied to the cows that delivered their milk. Generally, a tablespoon of ghee contains 8% of vitamin A, which is recommended as per RDI. It contains 2% of vitamin E and 1% of vitamin K.
Other Health Benefits
Indian tradition claims Ghee to be the best as a fat and strength-giving food. Also, the ancient Ayurveda claims that natural and pure Ghee improves memory, flexibility, and digestion. Apart from eating, Ghee is also used to apply on wounds and dry skin, externally.
What does it taste like?
Ghee tastes slightly different from butter, not better, but tastes amazing and improves the overall taste and quality of the food. A light salt will feel on the tongue while consuming it with whole bread or sautéed vegetables.
Is it easily available in the market?
Availability of pure Ghee is quite difficult in the market as it comes in the blended form with other vegetable Ghee varieties. Contacting the village farms can give you surety for the quality of pure Ghee, but it is quite difficult to reach or find those farms.
There are many brands that claim of offering Pure Ghee within the amount INR 400, which is quite impossible as local ghee producers sell it with price more than INR 600 in the market.
A brand – Nutrimoo also claims that they are in contact with local farms and dairies, hence able to sell original and pure Ghee within the price range of INR 600-700.
It’s highly advised to purchase pure Desi Ghee to avail maximum benefits. Bad quality Ghee may cost high in the form of health loss as it may contain bad cholesterol substances in it.
