1. You Cannot Drive Until You're 18
The legal age of driving a car on the streets of Dubai is 18 years onwards. But for that, one should always have a legit driving license verified by the Dubai or UAE authorities, or they should have an international license approved from any country. Essentially a person should always carry the vehicle documents anytime they travel on the roads which include the vehicle registration documents, the driving license and the insurance documents if the vehicle is insured.
2. Strictly Follow the Driving Laws in Dubai
In Dubai, vehicles are supposed to be driven on the right side of the roads. Children under 13 years are not allowed to sit in the front passenger seat. Anyone travelling without fastened seatbelts will be charged with a fine. For tram safety, new traffic laws along with signs have been recently introduced in Dubai. There are also penalties set for people who ignore the red light signal set for tram passing. The charges of the fine for this is more or less AED 30,000.
It is of crucial importance that every vehicle that is running on the roads of Dubai is legitimately registered, insured, and the driver has a legal driving license holder.
3. No Violation of Speed Fence
You should never over speed your car even if you are in a rush to reach somewhere on time. Every road has a speed limit set by the RTA. The average speed limit of a car should rest within the bracket of 40 to 80 km/ph. However, the speed limit can vary in case of different areas and roads. For example, the speed limit of driving on the motorway is 100-120 km/ph., while the minimum speed can drop to 60 km/ph. Similarly, if you are driving a car in a residential area, your speed limit should not be over 40 km/ph. Whereas if you are driving on the road in an urban area, then your speed limit should not surpass 40-80 km/ph. In the same way, if you are driving anyway near a parking area or on a service road, the speed of your car should be approximately 25 km/ph.
4. Never Try To Breach The Traffic Rules
One of the most offensive of all the violations of the traffic rules is driving without carrying a driving license. You will be charged not only with the fine but also with some extra points for violating traffic rules and somehow committing a traffic crime. If for some reason your driving profile is allotted with over 24 points within a year, your driving license can be revoked or suspended for three months minimum. However, if you want to reduce your points, you need to take driving lessons if advised by the traffic police. Nonetheless, drunk driving incurs the highest number of points and penalties with the confiscation of the vehicle and court trials.
5. Always Report An Accident
If the accident is severe, a pink slip will be issued, while a green slip is issued to the victims. These slips issued by the police are important for insurance companies and repair purposes.
