AI, the Masters of Machines Is in the Spotlight for Students

As the need for better AI skills accelerates, students are getting more involved in AI and machine learning. By taking up AI certifications and courses in AI, students are now paving their AI career.

If artificial intelligence is the next revolutionary force, it’s high time everyone looks closely at it.

Well, students across the U.S. have started pushing their way through AI.

  • As stated by the AI Index 2019 Annual Report, multiple students have enrolled in introductory AI and machine learning classes at Stanford.

As AI spurs its relentless innovation across industries, it is indeed a great approach by the university to offer courses in new-age technologies – AI and machine learning. As a result, many other universities and colleges will now begin to offer inevitable coursework for students looking to get into an AI career.

As the demand for AI engineers surge, it is seen that 50% of this year’s job listed had roles related to development and engineering along with robotics as an emerging field for the first time. The hiring growth grew to 74% annually four years ago, with specific skillset across different industries – the skillset included machine learning and AI.

This might be good for potential employers desperate to hire trained AI professionals in 2020. With the pool of AI talent that seems to expand within a few years, it is expected that the jobs market will have an ample supply of skilled professionals to bridge the gap.

Updates from Stanford University: -

  • The enrollment of the “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” course estimated to have grown fivefold between the years 2012 and 2018.

Updates from University of Illinois: -

  • The course “Introduction to Machine Learning” grew about twelvefold between 2010 and 2018 with an additional spike that happened in 2015.

Even self-directed online learning in AI-related topics picked up the pace. For instance, Udacity had around enrollments in five machine learning and AI classes within two years. Having said that, it is evident for individuals to get some of the best AI certifications under their belt, not just to grab a credible career but to remain future-ready.

Surprising yet interesting facts: -

  • The number of Ph.D. scholars with AI and machine learning specialization accelerated within the past years.
  • AI is said to be one of the most popular Ph.D. programs most Ph.D. grads are taking up, and it is growing at a rapid pace.
  • In 2018, more than 21% of Ph.D. graduates specialized in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • This percentage increased from 21% to 62% over the years (2004 to 2018).
  • The majority of these Ph.D. scholars moved into private companies after the completion of the program.

AI to change the education sector

The new-age technology brings up a new transition even in the education industry. Thus, causing a mutual benefit both to the students and the institutions.

As AI and machine learning grows ubiquitous, education in this field is bound to increase. Despite the job role you’re at or getting behind the concept of how AI and machine learning works will only help you ahead in the foreseeable future.

Based on a recent report by Brookings Institute, the analysis showed that AI along with machine learning will become a significant factor for the future workforce – analysts, supervisors, and well-paid managers.

This will also expose workers employed at factories who are well-educated as well as to those who are already involved with AI.

However, AI may not be of harm to lower-paid service workers.

By the end of 2020, we’ll be witnessing a drastic change from people-centric to data-centric. We’re also going to see a wider emphasis on how companies will be looking for potential solutions to solve complex AI problems.

The most interesting factor about AI is that the technology will continue to surge; and how it will help us in better understanding of the world.
