Brain tumors in adults

Renowned surgeon-doctor Vladimir Stefanov, who has worked in oncology centers all over the world (Europe, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hong Kong) has extensive experience in correctly diagnosing and treating brain tumors in adults.

Adult brain tumors are diseases in which a malignant cancerous cell develops in the brain tissue. The neoplasm is capable of disrupting the body's controlling functions located in the medulla, affecting the quality of hearing, vision, touch, and others.

If the tumor originally appeared in another organ of the person's mechanism and metastasized to the brain, it is called metastatic.

Symptoms of manifestation of the disease

Frequent manifestations of the disease include:

  • headaches;
  • vomiting;
  • change in taste;
  • mood swings;
  • fainting spells and seizures.

Other symptoms are possible.

Diagnostic methods

To detect neoplasms in the head, the spinal cord and brain are examined using:

  1. CT scan. With a procedure called a CT scan, images are taken for a detailed examination, including contrast (dye ingestion occurs before the procedure);
  2. MRI. Before the examination, the patient is injected with the drug gadolinium, which concentrates around cancer cells and improves image quality. The magnetic resonance imaging method is based on the analysis of magnetic and radio waves, which are reflected from the tumor.

Cancerous masses in patients are removed surgically with a tissue sample examined by biopsy for malignancy.

Grades of brain cancer

Biopsy readings (the result of examining atypical cells under a microscope) show the stage to which the cancer can be classified:

  1. The first stage can be classified as one in which no other tissues are affected; the tumor can be removed completely;
  2. The second stage is characterized by slow growth and involvement of neighboring organs;
  3. The third stage is characterized as the second, but the cells in it are much different from the normal state;
  4. In the fourth stage, there is intense growth and the disease is poorly treated.

The prognosis of treatment of the disease is influenced by the type, degree and location of the tumor, the possibility of surgical intervention to remove the tumor mass.
