Samsung announced that the release of the Samsung Galaxy S21 phone is on the 29th of January 2021. It is remarkable that the release price of the Samsung S21 is lower than the release price of the S20 at the cost of trimming some specs like that the phone does not support microSD and the maximum display resolution was reduced. It is worth mentioning that all the different versions of the Samsung S21 are compatible with the 5G technology. In this article, Samsung S21 will be reviewed and compared to the other two versions: Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Design of Samsung Galaxy S21
The design of the Samsung Galaxy S21 is very outstanding and it differs much from the S20 design in used materials, colors, and the overall device look. Compare Air Conditioner Prices in Egypt
The device screen is 6.2 inches with a Full-HD+ AMOLED display. Although it is not as compact as iPhone 12 mini, for example, users who prefer small phones will not have a problem with it. Moreover, users who prefer large screens can go for Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus or Ultra with a bigger screen and some other difference we will discuss later.
The body of the device is not glass-fabricated like S20, instead, a new material called “glasstic” is used for fabrication, the same material used on Samsung Galaxy Note 20, with a matte finish for the device which makes the device look less shiny than S20 for instance. Glasstic is the company name that patented the new material. The phone is released into four colors:
-
Phantom White
-
Phantom Gray
-
Phantom Pink
-
Phantom Violet
It is also notable that the camera block design is totally new and innovative. Samsung calls the new camera divisive design “Contour Cut Camera”. In other words, the new design makes the camera look slimmer and, moreover, it does not protrude much from the rear of the phone.
Performance and Specs
The phone versions come with the latest generations of the chipsets Qualomm’s Snapdragon 888 (US) or Exynos 2100. In addition, the chipsets are integrated with an 8-GB RAM in Samsung Galaxy S21, and with either 12GB or 16GB in S21 Ultra. As for the storage capacity, the user can choose between 128GB or 256GB options keeping in mind that the phone does not support inserting external microSD. Therefore, the built-in storage cannot be expanded. Furthermore, it is also worth mentioning that the phone is run on Android 11 with One UI 3.0 skin of Samsung. Display
It is quite controversial what Samsung has made by reducing the display resolution of the Samsung Galaxy S21 compared to the resolution of S20. They switched from Quad HD in S20 to Full HD+ in S21. The only logical reason for doing that is to reduce the price of the device upon release. However, the difference is not that clear, you need to have been using a phone with Quad HD for some time and getting used to it before telling the difference in the displays. It is also worth mentioning that all the videos played on the Full HD+ panel of the Samsung Galaxy S21 looked of sufficient high-quality. If you are not that satisfied with the display technology of S21, you can shift to S21 Ultra which utilizes the Quad HD display screen.
The maximum refresh rate of the Samsung Galaxy S21 is 120Hz which is always on and works according to an adaptive capacity algorithm. To elaborate more, if you are playing a mobile game, the refresh rate will stick to 120 Hz, but if for example, you are checking an email, the refresh rate will automatically go down to save battery power.
As for the fingerprint scanner, it is larger than the other Samsung Galaxy phones, easier to hit, and much faster as well.
Camera
The camera hardware technology used in Samsung Galaxy S21 is the same hardware used last year in S20. However, there are some notable changes in the camera software than in previous versions. Compare Desktop Computer Prices in Egypt
The camera is constructed of:
-
12 MP main camera.
-
12 MP Ultra-wide.
-
64 MP telephoto which is able to get a 3x optical hybrid zoom.
One of the software improvements is the Single Take, which enables the user to take various photos and videos using the three cameras at the same moment of pressing the shutter button, this module got improved in Samsung Galaxy S21 due to adding the option of slow-mo. This option is of high importance if you are taking photos of unstable objects, pets, or children, it increases the chance of getting some good shots.
The 3x optical hybrid zoom in the telephoto camera is good especially it offers 30x digital zoom, and this feature is further enhanced in S21 Ultra.
For the frontal camera, the phone comes with a 10MP camera with the following specs:
-
f/2.2, 26mm (wide), 1/3.24″, 1.22µm, Dual Pixel PDAF.
