5 Strategies to improve employee productivity

In the past decades, the smaller companies stayed behind due to lack of resources. These tools were expensive back then. However, in the present time, numerous tools are available for free or very reasonable price due to the innovations in technology, especially in the digital landscape. You don’t need to make bulk purchases. Initially, you can start off with a low budget and as employee productivity improves, you can increase your budget.

Lack of tools and resources

Not having the right tools to finish a task is among the things that employees find most frustrating to deal with. When was the last time you had a survey within your company about resources and tools?

This is the most common problem among organisations that affect employee productivity in a negative way. Around 56% of the workers believe that they don’t have the rights tools to do their jobs.

Cross-Training and Development

Many workers complain that they are not performing within a variety of positions. Small-sized businesses can greatly benefit from workers who want to wear different hats.

Growing the productivity of a worker is easy when you allow them to learn things out of their job description. When you equip employees with a diverse range of expertise and skills, you strengthen them and your organisation.

If an employee in the other department is absent due to some reason and is unable to perform the work, you can make use of other employees.

An important thing to keep in mind is that you should never force any employees to learn skills that are out of his job description. Today, both millennials and Gen Y are dynamic. They want to explore new horizons and learn different things. So, if they want to learn a new skill by doing cross-training, let them do it. But don’t force any employee.

Improve Company Culture

Improving the culture of your company is crucial if you want to increase productivity. Many people confuse company culture with the company environment, while the environment is just a part of it.

The culture of your company involves the vision of the company, goals, ethics and the working environment.

Research suggests that company culture and rewarding employees have a great impact on productivity.

Improving culture begins with the hiring process. You need to hire employees who believe in your vision and goals of the company. A person with a small mindset will never go out of the box to do something big and we are sure you don’t need such a person.

Communicate Effectively

A common problem among employees and managers is communication. Many employees feel a gap when it comes to interacting with each other. Managers should be easily approachable for everyone, even for an intern. It is the responsibility of a manager to effectively communicate the KPIs and responsibility to each worker in his or her team.

When employees feel connected, they feel valued. And it directly affects productivity.

Reward your employees

Using reward and recognition is a proven method to grow productivity. It not only enhances output but also helps them retain employees. When you offer rewards, employees work harder to achieve them.

You can offer performance bonuses. For employees who are at the managerial position, you can offer them valuable perks like a luxury car. If you cannot build a fleet of company cars, go for a car rental company. There are many companies which offer corporate car rentals at discounted prices.

It is not necessary to provide financial rewards. You can look beyond. Find out what an individual wants. Maybe an employee want to spend more time with his family. You can offer them a holiday vacation to a coveted destination.

Don’t forget to publicly recognise the employees who are consistently outperforming others. Send out emails throughout the organisation. This will not only make them feel valuable but also inspire fellow employees.

Conclusion

Employers want to have a workforce that is energetic and productive. Employees, on the other hand, want their efforts to be recognised. By implementing these simple strategies, you can enhance productivity among your employees.
