Whenever we switch on the air conditioner of the car, we expect clean air to come out of the air conditioner. But what if the bad smell comes out of your air conditioner; it implies that there is a problem with your air conditioner.

There are a few of the ways to determine and find confirmed smells that are coming out from your air conditioner. Many of the times, these smells may result in damage to your air conditioner, or there could be several other reasons for that.

Reasons for Bad Smell in Air Conditioners:

  1. Mold and Bacteria:

This can be one of the or the only reasons you can something bad in your air conditioner. When you have turned on your air conditioner, have you noticed any growth of mold in your air vents? The growth of bacteria may be the reason for the smells of mildew.

As your car becomes older and older even the bacteria, fungi, mold, and other microorganisms start to settle in your car. These are more likely to be found behind the dash panel on the evaporator. This is a very displeasing smell that comes out of the air conditioner and also if you are not often using the air conditioner of the car this could be the reason for bacterial growth in your air conditioner.

Another reason could be that you are turning on your air conditioner at the maximum level often, which may have caused bacteria due to excess water dripping in the unit.

To fix this problem, find the drain tube in your car’s ac unit. Check thoroughly that it is working fine. To destroy the bacteria that is growing behind the dash panel using an anti-bacterial treatment. To fix this problem, we advise you to switch off the car’ air conditioner for the time being, instead let the fan run for a few minutes. This will let the water evaporate which might be present on the coils of your unit.

  1. Gas Leak:

If you can smell some kind of gas smell from the A/C unit, then your car may be dealing with a gas leak. The logic behind this is that when your car is sucking the fresh air even the gas smell is getting sucked.

To handle this issue, you should check where is the gas leak. There can be several areas where the gas leak can happen. To know where is the gas leak going on, check for the fuel pressure regulator of your engine to see if there are any leaks in that area. You can even check the fuel injector "O" rings in the engine compartment for any of the leaks. Do not forget to check your exhaust pipes and muffler for any holes that can cause gas leaks.

  1. Dirty Air Filters:

The air filters which you are using for your car after some time might cause a weird car air conditioner smell, the reason for that maybe they are collecting dirt, stagnant water, dust mites, and other harm full particles. This all may lead to a different mixture of fragrance which may be unpleasant for us. So, if you feel your air filters are smelling you can clean it or either change it.

  1. Antifreeze:

Is the cooling system in your car smelling sweet? If yes, you should immediately hire somebody to check the unit and fix the issue. Check online for ‘AC Maintenance Dubai’ to the problem at the earliest.  The probable reason for that is toxic liquid ethylene or anti-freezing. This smell is created because of a leak in the cooling system. The leak can come out from the heater core, pipe, or hose, coolant housing unit, or even the radiator.

Additional Tips to Eliminate Car AC Odors:

Another reason for foul smell could be the damp floor mats near the A/C unit, it leads to mildew in the AC unit. If you find out that the bad odor is coming from that place, the best you could do is open the front cover and remove the filter that is present there.

You can use a nylon scrub pad to remove the mold that is growing there, then use a cotton swab to dry it. To dry it turn the car heater on. When the area is completely dry, apply an anti-mildew solution, odor absorber. You can even sprinkle the baking soda on the upholstery and then do not touch the place leave it for a day or so, then the smell is dissipated.

You can also remove the car mats and let it air out for some time. Even the dust can pile up inside it and this may lead to an unpleasant smell if that happens. Vacuum the vents and use the water and vinegar solution for the interior of the car.
