How to Take Care of Your Carpet during Holiday Season

As the fall ends and winter season begins, it marks the start of fun, entertainment, and holidays. From November, homes in the USA start getting filled with family visits, lights, decorations, and an abundance of delicious and mouth-watering cuisines and desserts. However, along with this joy and holiday celebrations, what also comes is the unavoidable mess. And your carpet is the first thing that gets dirtier and requires cleaning at such times. When there are kids and pets, your carpet is bound to get messy.

So, what should you do? While professional carpet cleaning services are always at your disposal, here are a few simple tips to prevent your carpet from getting dirty. And then, we will discuss what you should not do so that your carpet’s condition doesn’t get worse.

What to Do to Keep Your Carpet Clean

  • Use area rugs in high-traffic areas, such as the entrance in your home.
  • Encourage your family members and guests to take off their shoes before entering your home to avoid dirt, debris, and oils on soles getting in contact with the carpet.
  • Vacuum clean your carpet before hosting a holiday party to prevent everyday dirt from settling deep into the carpet from high foot traffic. Doing it before more dirt is added to the carpet will keep the dirt accumulation to a minimum.
  • If a spill occurs on the carpet, blot it with lukewarm water instantly to prevent it from sinking into the carpet pad. You can also use a cloth towel for blotting.
  • Again vacuum clean once the party is over to avoid food crumbs sticking to the carpet and turning into mold or bacteria.

What to Not Do When You Spot a Stain on Your Carpet

No matter how hard you try, carpets get stained anyhow. So, if the worst happens and you notice a stain left by the guests, here are a few tips for you:

  • First of all, don’t panic.
  • Make sure that you don't rub the stain on the carpet.
  • Do not pour an excessive amount of water over the stain to lighten it. It may loosen the stain, but it will also cause the stain to sink deeper into the carpet pad. This will make it harder to get the stain out.

How to Remove Certain Stains from Your Carpet

Tip 1:

Mix some white vinegar or dish detergent with warm water and use the mixture to blot the stain.

Tip 2:

When you notice a red wine stain on the carpet, use a detergent solution.

First, dip a white soft cloth or plain white paper towel into the detergent solution and dab repeatedly. Then, press the cloth on the carpet for a few seconds. Wait for about 15 minutes for the stain to break down. After that, soak up the excess liquid with a dry white cloth. Continue blotting the entire stained area with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water. Wait until the carpet dries completely, if the stain is still there, place a half an inch thin stack of white paper towels on the stain and put a glass baking dish for around 15 minutes. It might help remove the carpet stain.

Regardless of whether you are able to get the stain out or not, use carpet cleaning services Nashville especially before (to make a clean and hygienic impression) and after the holiday season (to get all stains out that your carpet gets during parties). It will help you keep your carpet clean and look brand new.
