A diffuser breaks essential oils down into smaller molecules, dispersing them into the air whilst creating a relaxing smelling, calming ambience that can be altered to set a desired mood.
Diffusers make you feel like you’re living in a spa. They help you to breathe easier and relax.
Ben Phillips, Brand Manager, Buckley & Phillips Aromatics says ‘Diffusion through the air using an ultrasonic diffuser or oil burner is one of the most effective ways to scent the home or workplace. They disperse tiny molecules of oils into the air in a fine mist or vapour and can scent a room very quickly and efficiently. Just a few drops is all that is required for several hours of aromatic enjoyment. There are an infinite number of combinations you can try or experience the simplicity of a single oil.’.
Ben says when considering which Essential Oil is right for you, ‘The most common safety issues are whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Other health concerns are epilepsy, high blood pressure, sensitive skin, rashes, cancer treatment. Always check for the specific contra-indications associated with an essential oil you wish to use. ‘.
You can combine different essences in your oil diffuser to create your own signature blend. Essential oils have many benefits. Ben Phillips shares with us some of his most popular blends for common conditions:
Oils that are good for insomnia/restful sleep are:
Chamomile-Roman, Vetiver, Rose, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Valerian. 'Diffuse through your diffuser or mix 5 drops (total) in 1 tablespoon of full fat milk, base oil, unscented body wash or Epsom salts. Then add this to running water in a hot bath before bed', says Ben.
Oils that are good for sinus/breathing are:
Marjoram, Oregano, Cedarwood, Tea Tree, Frankincense. Diffuse through your diffuser or for steam inhalation, add 3-5 drops (total) to a bowl of hot water, wait 30 seconds for the oil dissipate. Cover head with towel, lean over and inhale. Alternatively, a chest rub can be made by diluting 15 drops (total) in 30ml of base oil like fractionated coconut. Massage onto the chest and upper back then store unused oil in a dark sealed bottle.
