You’ve probably noticed by now that we at ThePugAndPup.com have an affinity for all things firepaws. We feel they are one of the most underrated and underutilized features in an outdoor space that can be used to create a magical experience. We love firepaws because they add life, intimacy, and coziness to your backyard, while also providing great ambiance and heat. But it is their ability to keep us entertained for hours on end that makes them so special! Are you ready to start your Firebowls Season? Don’t worry if you haven’t started yet – we know you will make up for lost time! If you want to make sure it lasts from now until the snow flies; read on for our 8 tips on how to make your firebowls season last longer than just a couple of nights…
Turn your firebowl into a night-time centerpiece
Firebowls are an excellent way to add ambiance to your backyard, but they can also be used as a centerpiece for your backyard dining table or bar. If you don’t have a backyard table, but you do have a firebowl – you can use it as a tabletop! For this to work, you’ll need to have some sort of tray underneath your firebowl, as well as a cover – and make sure that you have a fire extinguisher nearby! Alternatively, you can position your firebowl in the middle of a round patio table, or you can position it on a low table in front of a larger dining table. This will allow you to see your guests’ faces, while also giving you the added benefit of an extra source of light!
Add some greenery
If you want to add some greenery to your firebowl, there are a few options. You can add fresh flowers (sadly, you will need to replace these every couple of hours or so), or you can add fake or silk flowers (these will last for the duration of your Firebowls Season.). You can also go for live greenery like herbs, or even some small seasonal vegetables. We recommend going with herbs if you want to add greenery, because they smell great, and they will also add to the ambiance of your firebowl. You can use fresh or dried herbs, and they will all smell good – just make sure you change them regularly so they don’t go stale! If you aren’t sure what kind of herbs to use, try anise seeds, basil, bay leaves, cilantro, mint, rosemary, or sage. Firebowl
Coordinate your firebowl with your decor
This is especially important if you have a specific theme or colour scheme that you want to use in your backyard. If you have a firebowl in a backyard with lots of blue and white, it might not look as good as it did in your friend’s backyard with all red and gold. If you want your firebowl to match the rest of the backyard, try using a coloured firelog – this will change the colour of the flames, and the smoke will be coloured, too! Coloured firelogs can be found at your local hardware store, or even online. If you don’t mind the colour of the flames, but you want to be able to change the smoke colour, you can also add a coloured smoke eliminator to your firebowl.
Add some more height to your space
If your firebowl is in the centre of your backyard, and you want to make it the focal point of your outdoor space, you can add some height around it. This can be done by adding a small wall around the firebowl – with space at the bottom to let the smoke escape – as well as some sort of roof that will protect you from the rain. You can also use a firepit, or create a new feature with a garden structure, like a giant outdoor pot, or a stone wall. You can also add some height to your firebowl by adding a table in front of it, or even some plants or trees!
Provide cozy seating options in front of the firebowl
If you have the room, try adding a couple of comfy chairs or sofas in front of the firebowl – this will make it feel a lot more intimate, and it will also keep your guests warm! If you want to add another level of comfort, you can create a comfy seating area with blankets and pillows, as well as a table for drinks and snacks.
Bring in colour and light
You can bring more colour and light to your backyard by adding coloured lanterns around the firebowl. If you’re really feeling adventurous, you can build your own lanterns using coloured paper, or by painting lanterns. You can also add coloured lights around the firebowl to change the ambiance. You can use coloured lights inside the firebowl, or you can use coloured light bulbs to change the colour of the light coming from your outdoor lights.
Use the space for activities and games during the day
During the day, use the firebowl for activities and games like lawn bowling, cornhole (or bean bag toss), and cornhole – or even as a cooler for drinks, or a coffee table! If you have a coffee table in your backyard, but you don’t have room for a coffee table around the firebowl, you can use the bottom of the coffee table to store drinks, or food. You can also use the bottom of the coffee table as a place to rest your feet, or store your outdoor toys.
Summing up
Firebowls are a fantastic way to transform your outdoor space, and they can also be a ton of fun! They are great for entertaining guests, creating an intimate atmosphere, and they can also be used to keep you warm when the weather gets chilly.
