What’s the Story?
After clearing the examination, Shrawan has been appointed as the track maintainer in the Dhanbad Division of Indian Railways. Popularly known as trackman, the position of a track maintainer is a rather lower-position which is often filled by students holding an ITI Degree in different trades. Currently, Shrawan Kumar has been posted at Chandrapura under Public Works Inspector (PWI), Telo and looks after the track maintenance between Chandrapura and Telo section.
Educational Qualifications of Shrawan
Shrawan hails from Patna, Bihar and pursued his engineering education from IIT Bombay under an integrated duel degree course in 2010. He completed his B.Tech + M.Tech programme from IIT Bombay in 2015. Shrawan joining Dhanbad Railway Division as a trackman has also surprised several senior officers from the division, as they never expected someone with such an advanced degree accept a ‘Group D’ post.
Why join Railways or Government Jobs?
Shrawan attributed him accepting RRB Group D Posting as a ‘trackman’ despite having an engineering degree from IIT Bombay, due to ‘job safety’. He also said that since his childhood he wanted to become a Government Servant joining a Sarkari Naukri. He is confident that in future, he will be able crack an ‘officer-level’ role in Government Sector soon.
Why is it surprising?
While eligibility criteria for different posts offered under RRB Group D Recruitment are different, the primary or basic qualification remains to clear Class 10 Board Exam. Therefore, an IITian, holding Master’s degree from one of the top and most reputed technology institutes of the country, accepting RRB Group D Post, for which the minimum educational qualification is Class 10 Pass, has surprised many.
