THE TOP 8 LUXURY RESORTS IN THE MALDIVES

1. SIX SENSES LAAMU

Our regular readers will remember that we are great fans of the rustic chic Six Senses concept. We concluded that the Maldivian outpost of the Chain was perhaps the best example of philosophy, which mechanically blends beautiful remote locations with environmentally friendly luxury after a short stay in Six Senses Laamu.

 

We love it: The spacious, innovative Ocean Waterville, designed in a style that is perfect for a paradise destination, was our absolute favorite thing for the resort.

2. ONE&ONLY REETHI RAH

We felt like we could stay here a month after a few days on One&Only Reethi Rah, and we could not bored. Reethi Rah is a cross between a spa resort, an exceptional country club, and the playground of a billionaire with its fabulous style, glamorous atmosphere, and sheer wealth of attractions. It's a lovely world for itself.

 

We love it for: We have stayed at the Beach Villa with Pool. Luxurious, sleek, and with plenty of room to and from. We also stayed for a few days in a Water Villa, surrounded by lounging nets and spread over a mixed level deck with blue shallows. Sometimes we would drive directly from the deck into the calm waters. Pure happiness!

 

3.HUVAFEN FUSHI

 

We discovered how pure Huvafen Fushi is about escapism during our stay here: it offers a cool return to some true elements of the Maldives. However, the resort has no shortage of cool ideas, with its famous underwater spa or its twinkling-star infinity pool still one of the most emblematic in the country.

The superb water-filled bar for sunsets and our ocean bungalow with swimming pool. We like it. Its stroked roof looks rustic, but it has nothing else but an interior with a touch of a "temporary city loft."

 

 

4. CHEVAL BLANC RANDHELI

Randheli was designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, a creative mind behind some of the most stunning resorts in the world (including Chedi Muscat and a lot of Aman resorts).

 

We love it: Cheval Blanc's design is perhaps the most glamorous and sleek of the top 15 luxury resorts on the Maldives — and their villas are simply amazing. They are quite enormous, and with excellent craftsmanship and detail their decoration stands out. Each sophisticated sanctuary has an enormous infinity pool.

 

5. COMO MAALIFUSHI

Without the Como Resort, which we have been looking forward to since it started in 2015, we couldn't complete one of our recent trips to the Maldives. Our pick-up? We will always choose a perfect blend between a quiet atmosphere and Maalifushi 's wall-down look.

 

Thanks to COMO's Shambhala, a very high-quality cosmetics range, distributed in bathrooms, this island smells good. And COMO was as good as we expected Shambhala Spa to be!

 

6.SONEVA FUSHI

 

This is the first destination created by Sonu Shivdasani and his associate Eva, a powerful couple in the hospitality industry and a motor behind the idea of luxury back to nature. Soneva Fushi is the original Maldive desert island hideaway — he invented "castaway chic" mode practically alone.

His low-key, intelligent luxury makes a hotel stay seriously eco-friendly and magic experience. Moreover, it's not just on paper, because you are probably going to be barefoot during the whole of the stay — just as we did.

We love it: many villas in a "treehouse" style, the villas. These lovely hidden places are covered with lush greenery. Ah and also a night sky observatory for Soneva Fushi! Ah!

 

7.PARK HYATT MALDIVES HADAHAA

Hadahaa remembers the untouched Maldives some fifty years ago, more than 10 kilometers from the nearest inhabited island. But the resort is absolutely nothing outdated. Hyatt Park offers exceptional architecture with a chic atmosphere. His lobby is nothing short of iconic and looks like a huge upturned wooden dhoni.

Located in Huvadhoo, Maldives' largest and deepest atoll, Hadahaa offers the purest experience of the Maldive of the blue sea, beaches of fine powder and sand, as well the healthiest, rich reef of the country's best snorkeling.
