The best time to do this trek starts from April to November as Chopta receives heavy snowfall. Tungnath and Chandrashila are snow-covered from December to March. September to November are the best months to visit and experience the clear views of Himalayan Peaks. The temperature drops down in negatives as the region is all surrounded by snow and remains majorly cold.

The best time to undertake the Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila trek is the summer or autumn season. The months from April to June makes trekking a pleasant experience. The temperature ranges between 10 to 27 degrees Celsius in summers. Summers offer crystal clear views of the Garhwal Himalayas, and the cool breeze with the shining sun makes the trekking expedition easy and fun to do. 

If you wish to experience some of the winter chills during your trekking expedition, then the pre-winter months of October to December is the perfect time to go for the Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila Trek. The average temperature during this period ranges from 4 to 19-degree celsius. The pre-winter season provides a glimpse into the pure form of the Snow clad Garhwal Himalayas. 

Trekking during the monsoon should be avoided as the paths turn slippery, and the weather is highly unpredictable, which makes the trek very challenging and difficult.  

 

Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila Trek: Route

 

The Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila trek begins from Chopta. Chopta is a beautiful region covered with meadows and forests. The area of Chopta is a part of the Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary. Chopta is only connected via road to the nearby cities. So one is required to travel on the road from Hardiwar or from Rishikesh or GuptKashi to reach Chopta. The trek from Chopta to Tungnath is 3.5 kilometers long. It takes around two to three hours to reach Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple of the country from Chopta. The trekking trail from Chopta to Tungnath is a smooth one but with lots of turns in the pathway and a steady increase in altitude. The paths are covered in lush greenery and offer some of the best views of the mountain ranges of the Garhwal Himalayas. 

The temple of Tungnath is located at a height of 3,680 meters. Upon reaching the temple, the serene atmosphere of the temples envelops a person. The feel and the vibe at the temple cannot be described in words. It is just so heavenly. After a brief stopover at the temple, move forward towards the Chandrashila peak. There is only a distance of 1.5 Kilometers between Tungnath and Chandrashila peak. The Chandrashila peak is at the height of 13, 550 feet. From the Chandrashila peak, one can get a panoramic view of the various ranges of the Garhwal Himalayas. The notable peaks that one can see from the Chandrashila summit include Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, Chaukhamba, Trishul, Nandaghunti and Kedar.
