What to do if your oven does not work anymore

Whether built-in or not, with or without heat, the oven is essential to any kitchen. So when it does not work anymore, it's panic! What to do in case of trouble? Here are the answers to the most common difficulties.

Cooking Home CookingOur advice

Your oven is no longer heating, has electricity cut, it does not cook as well as before, it makes noise ... the problems associated with this home appliance every day can be numerous and restrictive. However, an oven that has a concern for operation is not necessarily an oven to change immediately.

Here is the review of the most common concerns, and the ways to solve them. And before any intervention, remember to unplug the oven from the mains.

My oven does not heat up anymore, or more

An oven that no longer heats up is an oven that is useless, simply! Generally, the problem can have three sources.

The simplest is a setting problem: first, check that you have not activated security that can limit the heating to a certain degree, or a particular automatic program. If in doubt, refer to the instruction manual of your model

Second source: a concern with the oven door. Indeed, if the device detects that the door is badly closed, it will block the rise in temperature, as this can be dangerous. We must, therefore, check that the door closes well, and nothing disturbs the security system. If the door lock is broken, you can change it for a few euros.

You do not notice anything problematic? Then the source of the problem may be a faulty resistance. As an oven incorporates several resistors, it is unlikely that the concern comes from there if the oven does not heat anymore, but if you notice a concern on certain programs or a decrease of the power of the oven, it is a track serious. You can test the resistance of your oven with a measuring device, or by removing all of them and trying them one by one by lighting the oven. Changing a furnace resistance is quite inexpensive and only takes a few minutes, so it may be worthwhile to do it yourself if you can.

The rotating heat is no longer effective

If you have the impression that your convection oven does not offer as optimal cooking as before, then it may be useful to check the propeller that turns the heat inside. This is a check that takes only a few moments because the propeller is protected with a plate fixed with four screws. Once these are removed, you can check that the propeller is secure, that it rotates properly, without play and without friction, and that it is not seized. If necessary, you can reattach it on its axis. If you notice that the propeller is not running or has an electrical problem, you can check the oven motor accessible from the side where it is attached: a cable may be disconnected.

If checking the propeller requires only a screwdriver, the engine is a more complex part of the furnace: if you're not sure what to do, call a specialized repairer instead.

My oven has tripped fuses

The pellets jump home when you start a program oven? The device is undoubtedly at the root of the problem. Again, there may be several sources: the first may be the socket on which the oven is plugged, which can deteriorate over time. Try to connect a low-power device to the socket, such as a lamp, for example: if the pellets pop when you turn it on, then you have found the source of the problem.

It is also possible that a faulty resistor causes power outages. You can test the resistances as explained a little further up in the article. If resistance breaks the lead, then it must be changed to get everything back in order. There are usually four resistors in a convection oven.

If the problem is not here, you can choose to test yourself or have it tested by a professional, different mechanical or electrical elements that may suffer from a lack of insulation, for example. The electronic programmer of the oven, the furnace motor, the fan or the lamp holder housing are tracks that should not be neglected. If you decide to do the verification yourself, go from the simplest to the most complicated: the origin of a short circuit is not always as complex as one might think.

My oven makes noise

If your oven makes noise during operation, it is not normal. Most of the time, it is vibration related to loose elements or that slowly unravel with time. Check the plates all around the oven, and tighten them one by one with a screwdriver. Do the same with the rotating heat propeller, which may tend to loosen as well.

The vibrations can also come from a failure of the closing system of the door: check the condition of the closing hook as well as the notch in which it comes to freeze. Often, these elements are plastic and deteriorate gradually. It can be useful to change them if they are damaged and they make noise.

If the noise is very important and does not look like vibrations, turn to the cooling fan, located on the top of the microwave oven price in Bangladesh, as well as to the rotating fan that feeds the previously verified propeller. For the cooling fan, you can try to grease its axes to see if that makes the noise disappear. On the fan side, the easiest way is to unplug it and turn it on again, to see if the noise stops or not. If the noise comes from there, then you have to change it, simply.

Do not hesitate to consult a professional!

If these tips can help you deal with some problems, encountered with an oven, fairly easily, do not make repairs yourself if you're not sure if you can do it or have the right equipment. If any repairs are available to the greatest number, in case of doubt, do not hesitate to contact a professional in your area. Do not forget to check if your oven is still under warranty before dismantling: this kind of action can, in some cases, cancel it.
