Jake Paul is heading back to the boxing ring. The YouTube star turned pro boxer is back in a headlining role on Saturday night in Atlanta when he faces off with former MMA welterweight champion Ben Askren. The two top a four-fight main card on Saturday night from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium that is expected to be filled with musical performances ranging from Justin Beiber to Snoop Dogg.

The two have traded trash talk for the better part of six months after Paul made waves with his thunderous knockout of Nate Robinson in November. Now Askren, never known as a big puncher, will step into the boxing ring for the first time since announcing his MMA retirement in 2019. Plus, this card also sees the return of a potential start at 140 pounds when Regis Prograis steps in against Ivan Redkach. And former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir makes his boxing debut when he faces Steve Cunningham.

Jake Paul is the brother of Logan Paul. Both are YouTuber online personalities with sizeable followings across almost every social media platform. They initially gained popularity on now-defunct video platform Vine and Jake Paul starred in Bizaardvark, a show on the Disney Channel.

As of late both Paul brothers have become well-known for -- bizarrely -- boxing. Logan Paul boxed fellow YouTuber KSI to a draw in a ludicrously high profile amateur boxing match in August 2018. Jake Paul fought KSI's brother Deji Olatunji on the undercard.

After the bout Jake Paul continued boxing and has fought professionally twice, most recently knocking out former NBA star Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson's recent comeback against Roy Jones Jr.

Since that contest Jake Paul has been going back and forth with multiple MMA fighters, including Conor McGregor and his training partner Dillon Danis, but ultimately he's set up a boxing match against retired UFC fighter Ben Askren.

Ben Askren is probably most famous for being violently KO'd by UFC superstar Jorge Masvidal in five seconds, but before that he was an undefeated fighter and considered among the most effective wrestlers in MMA.

After an incredibly successful amateur wrestling career Askren became a world champion in two organisations, Bellator and One FC. He made a UFC run at the end of his career, but by then was carrying a number of chronic long term injuries. He ultimately retired as a result of those injuries.

This makes perfect sense. While this fight is an unknown quantity, Askren was never considered a good striker in MMA. His whole game was set up around his grinding wrestling and brutal ground and pound strikes. When the fight remains standing, Askren tends to look sluggish and limited. Jake Paul, whilst inexperienced, has more professional boxing experience than Askren and hasn't lost a boxing match yet.

That being said, Askren is a former professional fighter with a 19-2 record and wins against world class competition. Jake Paul is 2-0 against less experienced opposition.

Jake Paul is a perfect 2-0 as a professional boxer. But that record was achieved against a fellow YouTuber in AnEsonGib and a former NBA player in Nate Robinson.

Can Paul notch a win over a legitimate fighter, though? The world is about to find out, as Paul will throw hands with retired mixed martial artist Ben Askren at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and live on pay-per-view on Saturday night.

After knocking out Gib and sleeping Robinson, turning the former three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion into an instant meme for the ages, the 24-year-old Paul is super confident that he'll hammer the final nail in the fighting career of the 36-year-old Askren.

"This is boxing versus MMA, and you're going to see the difference," Paul said during the fight press conference last month. "You're going to see the difference of a wanna-be fighter, a guy who choked in the Olympics, a guy who choked in the UFC, and now a guy who is going to choke against Jake Paul. I'm going to end this guy's career."

Despite having emphatically lost back-to-back UFC fights — to Jorge Masvidal by flying knee in five seconds and being submitted by Demian Maia in 2019 — Askren vows that he won't be bullied by the YouTuber, Paul.
