You must apply at least four days before you leave for your trip. The Indian e-Visa application is available to passport holders of 166 countries. If you plan to stay longer than 60 days, you must apply for a regular visa. The process to apply for a tourist visa online is:
•Getting started on the Indian visa application form
You first need to open an Indian visa application form in a browser window or new tab. You can safely ignore the warning that the official site is insecure or the security certificate is invalid.
•Choosing an Indian Mission
The Indian Mission is where you have to submit your application. The most common reasons for applicants being rejected is because they choose the incorrect mission at the top of the form.
•Date of birth
The calendar function on the visa application is a little complicated. Try adjusting the year first, if you do not see your birth month in the dropdown menu and afterwards you can try selecting the month again and will see all 12 months available.
•Other passport validity
When notified for “Any other valid Passport/Identity certificate held, “select yes if you are a dual citizen and hold a passport or other form of identification from another country.
•Religion
“NONE” cannot be the answer to this question. If you select “OTHERS”, you must write something in the field to move on to the next page of the form.
•Visible identification marks
This could mean tattoos. Unless you have a facial tattoo, just write “NONE”.
•Education level
You will need to select your level of education on the application form.
•Present and permanent address
The proof that you reside at the present address will be required to be shown, such as a copy of your driver’s license.
•Family details
You must list full names even if your spouse, father or mother is deceased, as well as their citizenship and date of birth.
•Choosing a profession
You need to choose your profession when applying for a tourist visa. Do not select unemployed, if you do not see your occupation on the list. Simply choose “OTHER” and write your profession in the field.
•Visa type
If you follow it up with “TOURISM” in the purpose of visit field than only choose “TOURIST” as your visa type.
•Trip details
You need to fill out the details of your trip including when and where you plan to arrive in and leave India.
•References
For India and your local address, you will need references. You may list your current hotel/guesthouse as the local references if you are applying for your Indian visa while abroad and list a neighbor, colleague or employer if applying while at home.
•Finishing the Indian Visa application form
You will need to bring two recent, official passport-sized photos (2 inches x 2inches on a white background) with you to the consulate. Do not attach them to the application form.
